General Motors cuts at the Flint, Pontiac and Janesville, Wis., plants will cause layoffs at Toledo Powertrain Transmission and Defiance Powertain Foundry.
GM spokewoman Wanda Wellman Montion in Toledo says the GM cuts at those plants will not take effect until the week of July 14, which is the week all GM workers are scheduled back from model changeover.
Wellman says the assembly plants would be building 2009 trucks and SUVs. She says it's not known how many workers in Toledo and Defiance would go on layoff and add that has to be worked out in the next few weeks by GM leaders.
All workers on layoff remain part of the union contract reached last fall, and all workers are eligible for unemployment and sub pay, which brings their salary levels to 95 percent of pre-layoff pay.
