TX officers meet with man accused of abusing teen in polygamist sect

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS (AP) -- A 50-year-old man accused of abusing a 16-year-old girl who was living at a polygamist retreat in Texas has been questioned by authorities.

Dale Barlow was interviewed by Texas rangers today in Utah. He denies the allegations against him and says he doesn't know the girl.

The girl's anonymous call for help triggered a raid at the ranch. In her phone call, the girl said she was pregnant with her second child and that her husband beat her about the head and chest when he was angry.

Child welfare officials took more than 400 children from the ranch, and more than 130 women left voluntarily.

Barlow's probation officer says he's a registered sex offender who can't leave the state without permission. He spent time in an Arizona jail last year after pleading no contest to a charge of conspiracy to commit sexual conduct with a minor.

Authorities have not yet made an arrest in the case of the 16-year-old.
