The Wood County commissioners just received a big award for innovative economic development. This means they did some pretty creative stuff to bring jobs and commerce to Wood County.
The most visible symbol of these efforts is Bass Pro Outdoor World. At $50 million, 150,000 square feet and hundreds of new jobs, Bass Pro is a big fish to land. In fact, it's a whopper.
Wood County took advantage of some tax-friendly legislation, which helped provide an incentive for Bass Pro. So we know the commissioners and others did their homework. They also must have presented a comprehensive and impressive package to get Bass Pro to say yes.
Economic development is hard work. It's great to see it done well. Wood County and the entire northwest Ohio region will be better off. Let's hope their excellent example leads the way for others to follow.
