TOLEDO-- Timo Perez had 3 hits and 4 RBI's to lead the Mud Hens to an 11-4 victory over Charlotte on Monday night. Toledo is off to a 4-1 start in the new season.
The Hens started the offense early in the first. LF Brent Clevlen came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Clevlen took the first pitch to right scoring two on the single. RF Matt Joyce extended his hit streak to four games with a single to center to score the Hen's third run of the inning.
With the bases loaded in the second, DH Timo Perez rocketed a two-base hit off the right field wall to score two runs to put the Hens up 5-0. The Hens scored two more runs in the second with consecutive sacrifice flies by 3B Mike Hessman and 1B Jeff Larish.
The Knights picked up their first hit of the night in the top of fourth when former Mud Hen CF Dewayne Wise sent a line drive to right. Wise would later score on a Brad Eldred single. The Knights looked like they would put some more offense on the board, but Mike Hessman made a great catch at third to end the inning.
The Knights put up their second run of the night in the sixth when 1B Brad Eldred drilled a double into the gap scoring 3B Josh Fields from second. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch by relief pitcher RHP Anastacio Martinez scored a run, making the score 7-3, Hens.
2B Caonabo Cosme led off the sixth with a home run just over the right field wall - his first of the year. Later in the inning, Timo Perez collected an RBI single.
Timo Perez added another RBI to his stat line when he doubled down the left field line in the eighth, adding another run to the Mud Hen lead. The Hens scored their final run of the night on Hessman's second sacrifice fly of the game.
