Toledo--Through five plus innings of work, Chris Lambert (0-0) allowed two earned runs while striking out three. Bulls' starter RHP Chris Mason (0-0) allowed two unearned runs through 4.1 innings and struck out four.
The Mud Hens allowed the Bulls to score first, when Lambert gave up a leadoff single to 1B Chris Richard, who later scored. The Hens answered back in the fifth when RF Matt Joyce extended his hitting streak to three games with a double and 3B Erick Almonte reached on an error. Both later scored to give the Hens a 2-1 lead. Durham came back in the sixth with three runs to take a 4-2 lead when RHP Matt Righter, pitching in his Mud Hens debut, replaced Lambert. The Hens tied the score in the sixth when Matt Joyce answered with a monster 2-run no-doubter, his first home run of the year, to even the score at 4.
The Bulls took the lead in the ninth after LHP Aaron Fultz (0-1) loaded the bases and allowed a run to put the Bulls up 5-4. The Hens threatened in the bottom of the ninth by putting two in scoring position with one out, but Durham's RHP Grant Balfour (1-0) sealed the victory and Toledo's first loss of 2008.
Mirrors: The Hens begin the season 3-1. Through the first four games of the 2007 season, the Mud Hens were 1-3 when they played at Louisville.
Win Streaks: The 3-game win streak to start the season marks familiar territory for the Hens. In 2007, Toledo had 13 such streaks during which time they outscored opponents 285-110. This year, they have outscored Durham 18-5 during the streak.
