Hens Crank Out Runs, Stuff Durham

worked an easy first half inning, setting down the Bulls in order. As soon as RHP Mitch Talbot took the rubber he had to work. The Hens sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the first resulting in five hits and two runs.

2B Henry Mateo

led off with a single, but was thrown out at third when

SS Derek Wathan

hit a single to right.

DH Timo Perez

doubled down the right field line, driving in Wathan.

3B Mike Hessman

kept the Mud Hens rolling by singling and advancing Perez to third.

CF Brent Clevlen

gave the Hens an extra boost by driving in Perez on a single. The Hens were up 2-0 after one.

Galarraga kept on dealing through the second, third and fourth innings, striking out four, allowing only two singles and a walk. Talbot gave up a single to Hessman and another to

1B Jeff Larish

in the third inning. Both runners advanced on a throwing error. Hessman later scored when Cleven grounded out. In the fourth inning, Talbot sent the Hens down in order for the first time.

LF Jon Weber led off the top of the fifth inning with a single and then stole second as pinch hitting C Hector Gimenez struck out swinging, but Galarraga was able to finish off the inning with out any damage.

Talbot (4IP/8H/2ER/2K) was replaced by RHP Ben Hendrickson in the bottom of the fifth. Wathan did not let Hendrickson settle in. He led off the inning with a single, followed by Perez landing a walk. After a wild pitch to Hessman, both runners advanced. Larish came to the plate with no outs, two runners on and belted a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence, pushing the Mud Hen lead to 6-0.

Galarraga bowed out after five innings (5IP, 3H, 0ER, 6K) making way for

RHP Anastacio Martinez

. Martinez did not pick up where Galarraga left off. SS Reid Brignac picked up the first Durham walk off the night, followed by RF Justin Ruggiano launching an RBI double off the left-center field wall. Martinez was able to get out of the inning when 1B Joel Guzman grounded to third. Hendrickson stayed in for the Bulls and set the Hens down in order in the bottom of the sixth.

Martinez pitched himself in to a jam in the top of the seventh but escaped with only one run scored. Weber led off with a double and Gimenez followed with a single, moving Weber to third with no outs. Cannizaro hit a sac fly, driving in Weber and bringing the score to 6-2. Martinez worked out of the inning with out any more runs scoring.

In the top of the seventh the Bulls added a run on a sac fly by Cannizaro. In the bottom of the eighth the Hens extended their lead by tacking on three more runs. Wathan led off with a triple to right center and was driven in on a sac fly by Perez. Hendrickson (2.2IP/3H/6ER/2BB/3K) was replaced by RHP Nick DeBarr. Joyce came up to bat with two out and two on and smacked a double to bring the Mud Hens lead to a final 9-2.
