They bought a car from a local used car dealer, but now they say it doesn't run properly. They claim it's the lot that's taking them for the ride.
After losing thousands of dollars, they're turning to Problem Solver Mika Highsmith, hoping to prevent others from making the same mistake.
Here it is, silver and in good condition on the outside. But on the inside, this car has problems. Kathy McCollum says, "The engine light kept coming on." According to McCollum and her daughter, it has been since they bought it from Toledo Auto Sales back in July.
The heat doesn't work inside the vehicle, and the heat in the engine is working over time. "It kept running hot," says McCollum.
She explains they took the car back right away while it was under warranty... "kept taking it back kept, taking it back," she says.
But says the mechanic at Toledo Auto Sales never fixed the problem. In fact, McCollum ended up replacing the radiator and putting in a new water pump on her own dime with her own mechanic.
But the problem still exists.
Now the car is paid off......five grand in total! McCollum tells News 11, "They say, 'Oh, well it's the head gasket.' Oh, you're just realizing this and you have professional mechanics?"
McCollum admits she made some mistakes. "I trusted them," she said. She hopes others learn from her faults, but says in the end, it's the car lot that's too blame. "They're supposed to be a professional car lot. They need to do the right thing and stop ripping people off."
The bottom line here, Highsmith warns, check with the Better Business Bureau before closing the deal with any company. This particular one has a unsatisfactory record.
Before you buy a car: have it appraised by someone you trust, test drive it and have a trusted mechanic thoroughly inspect the car.
