DALLAS (CNN) - Dallas police say a 27-year-old woman threw two of her children from the Jim Miller Road overpass into rush hour traffic on Interstate 30 Wednesday morning. She then leaped 22 feet to the pavement below.

The boys, ages 6 and 8, were rushed to Children's Medical Center for treatment; their conditions were not available, but police said they were expected to survive.

"Especially with the traffic - the fast-moving traffic out on the freeway this time of the morning in the hours of darkness - it's a miracle that both kids weren't hit directly by a passing car," said Dallas police spokesman Sgt. David Burroughs.

Investigators said the woman, identified as Khandi Busby of Dallas, stormed out of a car parked at a nearby gas station with the children in tow just before throwing them over the railing of the bridge.

The woman was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where she was reported in critical condition.

Two hours after the incident two lanes of I-30 were still blocked to traffic as police conducted an investigation.
