RSVP Hot Opportunity for the Month of March
SAFE (Senior Advocates for Fire Education)
The SAFE program is administered and coordinated by the Toledo Fire/Rescue Department, in cooperation with the American Red Cross and the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc.
The goal of the program is to promote safety and the prevention of fire emergencies through education, demonstrations and distribution of information. The program achieves this goal by training senior volunteers on how to provide safety education to the community. Through the training, the volunteers are required to successfully complete the SAFE curriculum and written examination which is followed by a segment of on-the-job training in the presence of the TFD Public Educator. The SAFE volunteer is alloted time in this training to become comfortable with all the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be added to the "active" schedule. The volunteers are assigned in teams of two to insure safety and accountability when doing SAFE presentations.
To become a SAFE Volunteer:
- You must be 55 years of age or better;
- Have a valid drivers license;
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Complete a criminal background check satisfactorily; and
- Complete training as mandated by the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.
