It's becoming clearer that Federal Express with its 600 jobs is leaving Lucas County. That doesn't mean we should let FedEx leave Northwest Ohio.
The Buck Rd. location in northern Wood County is a good solution. Local politicians should do all they can to make that happen.
This requires Wood and Lucas counties, and particularly the City of Toledo, to cooperate. If they do so, FedEx will receive an exceptional relocation offer.
If the right people don't make nice with each other, this deal could go north to Michigan in a hurry. Some sort of bold thinking tax share initiative should give all the parties something.
It's not perfect, but it sure beats the alternative.
I'm Bob Chirdon. I think it's ours to lose. And FedEx's departure would be a major regional loss. I hope the key players, including Mayor Finkbeiner, can keep their egos in check. The economic health of the region is everyone's responsibility.
