FOSTORIA -- People in Fostoria had their windows rattled Thursday morning.  Around 11:30, people throughout Seneca County heard a loud noise, like an explosion, that rattled their homes and businesses.

Now we know what it was.

The 180th Fighter Wing from Toledo Express Airport confirms that technicians had finished working on one of its F-16 fighter planes Thursday morning, and a pilot took it for flight testing.  As part of that testing, the plane was required to reach supersonic speeds, creating the sonic boom that was heard all over Seneca County.

The 180th says its pilots do that over sparsly-populated areas to minimize the disruption it could cause.
