MAUMEE -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 2 Illinois residents were killed in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike. It happened around 7:00pm Friday in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 56. That's 3 miles east of the Maumee exit.
Troopers say Charles Marlowe of Maumee was heading west when he lost control of his vehicle, driving across the grass median. His car hit the car carrying the two Illinois people head-on.
The Illinois residents' names are being withheld pending notification of their families.
The eastbound lanes of the Turnpike were down to one lane of travel for some 3 1/2 hours after the crash.
The Highway Patrol is investigating.
