WTOL Editorial: Keep Drugs Out of Athletics

Performance enhancing drugs are dangerous. In the short term, these drugs change your appearance and can dramatically affect your emotional state. Long term, they destroy organs and ruin lives. It is a horrible price to pay for an elusive promise of fame and fortune.

As Barry Bonds bends his strangely enlarged head to accept the crown as baseball's new homerun king, I worry about the impressionable high school athletes. How many of them are foolishly swallowing and shooting these unholy concoctions?

Parents, coaches, teachers and friends of athletes, if you suspect a child is taking some kind of illegal enhancing drug, get involved. If you're not sure, then you should learn about the side effects that are obvious if you know what to look for.

Go to WTOL.com. Click on the Big Red Box. There is link provided to an National Institute of Health page. You will find what you need to know about illegal performance enhancing drugs.  Go there now. Learn all you can. I'm Bob Chirdon and I think we are facing a crisis.
