Persuaded by numerous positive comments on the recent firefighters convention, the Rossford Business Association has decided to host a similar community gathering.
Despite the short time available for organizing efforts, RBA members decided at a luncheon meeting last Wednesday to proceed with the event.
Dubbing it "Fun at the Fountain," it will take place from 8 to 11 p.m., on Saturday, September 8, around the fountain on the front lawn of the city municipal building, 133 Osborn Street.
The adults-only event will feature a live band, Dave Carpenter and the Jagglers, with a beer garden and several food vendors.
Proceeds from the $1 cover charge will go to the annual RBA scholarship awarded to local high school seniors.
Rossford served as the host city June 15 and 16 for the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firefighters' Association 133rd annual convention. The event- especially the Friday evening cruise of firetrucks and a beer garden with a live band-drew thousands of residents and visitors to the downtown area.
"The community said they liked it, and they wanted to do it again-not just have a one-time thing," RBA Secretary Chrissa Liskai said.
Mrs. Liskai added that four area businesses have shown an interest in being sponsors of the event.
A steering committee was scheduled to meet yesterday to arrange the details.
Mayor Bill Verbosky said he was in support of the event, but noted that it likely will not draw the same number of people as the Friday evening firefighters' party.
"Many people came to see the firetrucks," he said, adding that a car cruise might enhance the event.
RBA president Dr. Angela Jackson said she would consider the next event a success if it draws several hundred people.
Dr. Jackson asked for volunteers to assist that evening with duties such as checking IDs and clean-up. Anyone interested in helping may contact her at 419-666-0700.
