PERRYSBURG -- You already can shop and dine at Levis Commons. But soon, you'll be able to spend the night. Major expansion plans were announced Wednesday, and they include a hotel, reports News 11's Dick Berry.
The hotel will cater to business travelers. It will also offer out-of-towners a place to stay after a day at Levis Commons. Developer Larry Dillin says the hotel came along at the right time and has the right elements for what he's trying to accomplish in Wood County.
A seven story Hilton Garden Inn will be the newest piece of the sprawling, 400-acre Levis Commons Lifestyle Center. There will also be an adjacent 25,000-sq.-ft. conference center with a 10,000-sq.-ft. ballroom.
"This whole area really -- because of its location and the amenities here -- is the ideal site for a hotel," says Bob Voelker, Gateway Hospitality Group.
Visitors to Levis Commons know what those amenities are: open-air upscale shopping and high end restaurants. Folks are also moving into surrounding brownstones and apartments. Now the hotel.
"Momentum has been building," says Larry Dillin. "All of our elements in the overall mixed use community have come together. This was just a piece of it."
And more pieces are falling into place. The hotel is part of $55 million in new construction at Levis Commons. There will be an entertainment district, additional retail, offices and residential lofts.
"I think this just adds quality to the Northwest Ohio Community -- a good thing for the county and region," says Ohio State Senator Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green).
The new Hilton opens for business next summer.
