Here's a timeline of the construction of the Veterans' Glass City Skyway.

  • 1988 -- TMACOG identified that a new river crossing over the Maumee as the region's top priority by 2010
  • March 4, 2002 -- Contract Signed for bridge project by Fru-Con Construction of Ballwin, Missouri
  • March 25, 2002 -- Fru-Con began construction
  • June 26, 2002 -- First Drilled Shaft Complete
  • August 29, 2002 -- First Segment Cast
  • February 28, 2003 -- First Span Erected (Southbound Exit Ramp to Front Street)
  • April 26, 2003 -- Pylon Footing Completed
  • September 24, 2003 -- All Drilled Shafts Complete
  • December 3, 2004 -- First Stay Cradle Installed
  • February 23, 2005 -- Piers Completed
  • April 26, 2005 -- Last Segment Cast
  • October 20, 2005 -- Topping of the Main Pylon
  • April 22, 2006 -- Highline Installed (signaling the start of stay cable installation)
  • June 14, 2006 -- AG-1 Truss Rotated 180 Degrees to Face Southward
  • June 20, 2006 -- First Stay Cable Installed/Stressed
  • November 16, 2006 -- All Approach Ramps Complete
  • December 20, 2006 -- Last Segment Set
  • January 17, 2007 -- 20th Stay Cable Installed
  • February 16, 2007 -- Final Concrete Closure Pour-Main-span Cantilever Complete
  • April 2007 -- Installation of LED lights on Main Pylon
  • April 2007 -- Installation of Glass on Main Pylon
  • Tentative: June 2007 -- All Finish Work Complete -- grooving of roadway, street lighting, installing concrete barrier wall, traffic control marking, etc.
  • Tentative: June -- Opening Ceremony/Ribbon Cutting for I-280 VGCS, including run/walk and invitation to the Governor.
