TOLEDO -- Police say a driver may have been drinking before causing a crash this weekend, killing two passengers in another car. That crash happened on Reynolds at Angola around 9:30 Sunday night, reports News 11's Lisa Rantala.

A four-year-old boy doesn't know his mother is dead and his father is in critical condition. A close friend also died at the scene.

"I'm still in shock," said George Jenkins, a cousin of the family. "I'm almost expecting that it was like a mistake."

Jenkins says his cousin, Robert Krempa, was out with his friends, Adam and Amanda Sarver, and their four-year-old son when he and Amanda were killed.

Amanda was like a little sister, Adam a good friend, Jenkins says.

Police say the group was driving north on Reynolds when 24-year-old Joshua Newman was driving south. They say Newman crossed the center line and crashed into the other car head-on. Alcohol may have played a factor in the crash, police say.

"In all good conscience, I really don't want to meet him," Jenkins said.

The family says the only one conscious from the scene was the little boy. They say his head was partially scalped, he needed two dozen stitches and that he asks for one woman every time he wakes up: his mom.

"I haven't talked to him, but he's asking for his mom every time," Jenkins said.

The boy's father, Adam, was rushed away in critical condition with two broken arms, a broken hip and a concussion.

Jenkins will be able to take away only the memory of his cousin. "He was a great storyteller so I'll miss the stories, Jenkins said.

About the man police say might have caused this fatal crash, Jenkins said, "He has two lives on his conscience forever. He will have to see that when he closes his eyes and goes to sleep every night."
