Hampton Inn is First New Business to Follow Bass Pro into Crossroads

The first new business to commit to building in the Crossroads area -- enticed by a location near Bass Pro customers -- will be a Hampton Inn.

The Rossford Planning Commission approved a site plan for the two-story hotel on a 2.5-acre parcel at a February 21 meeting.

The Hampton Inn will be located at 9753 Clark Drive West, next to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Tom Schnippel, engineer for the project, said he expects construction to start between mid-April and early May, and last about 10 months.

"We'd like to have it open before Bass Pro [opens]," he said.

Bass Pro has proposed to build a 150,000 to 180,000-square-foot facility south of State Route 795 and west of Crossroads Parkway.

The outdoor recreation retailer is expected to break ground on the new store in July, with an opening in 2008, according to city officials.

The Hampton Inn site plan shows 98 guest rooms, including five handicapped-accessible rooms, with 108 parking spaces, and an indoor pool.

"Overall, I think it's a very good plan," said Bob Densic, planning commission member.

The property owner, Ashton Development of Anna, Ohio, was granted a variance by the planning commission for the high-rise sign.

The commission approved the variance because the sign will be located within 500 feet of a limited-access highway.

Courtyard has a similar high-rise sign, Mr. Schnippel said.
