Apple Cheese Torte

Crust

1 cup butter/margarine (room temp)
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla and flour, blend well. Press mixture into the bottom and 3/4 way up the sides of an 8" or 9" spring form pan.

Filling

1 - 8 oz. package cream cheese (room temp)
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
5 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup sliced almonds

Beat cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla and egg. Pour over crust. Combine sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon and mix well. Pour apple mixture over top of cheese mixture and sprinkle with sliced almonds. Using a spoon, press crust down over the sides, even with the apples. Bake for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. Turn over down to 400 degrees and bake for an additional 25 minutes. Serve warm or refrigerated.
