LUCAS COUNTY (WTOL) - As hunting season gets underway,  there are some new restrictions hunters need to be aware when planning to head out of state to get that next big catch.

Hunters making a trip to Michigan, West Virginia or elsewhere should listen up to these new restrictions in order to avoid getting a hefty fine.

Hunters that go out of Ohio to hunt any animals susceptible to Chronic Wasting Disease aren't allowed to transport certain carcass parts back into Ohio that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has designated as high-risk..

These species include white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk, caribou and moose.

"What I would encourage you to do is to plan ahead before you make that trip out of state to go on that hunt, and make sure that you have plans for after your successful harvest so you know exactly what you're going to do so that it's not something that you're not going to decide 'what do I have to do' after I've made that shot and harvested that animal," said Joe Russ, the general manager of Cabela's of Dundee.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said those who violate the law and get caught could face hefty fines.
