Three homes 'uninhabitable' after an unconfirmed tornado swept through Monroe County

At least three homes are destroyed after an unconfirmed tornado came through Monroe County Tuesday night around 10 p.m.

MONROE COUNTY, MI (WTOL) - At least three homes are destroyed after an unconfirmed tornado came through Monroe County Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m.

The Monroe County emergency manager told WTOL 11 that those three homes received substantial damage and are uninhabitable.

One of the home owners said her roof was completely taken off and her pool is destroyed. She added that the whole incident sounded like a jet landed in her backyard.

Another owner of one of the three homes also said that it all sounded like a train.

"Alarms were going off on your phones and that and I'm like you know what I'm going to go in the basement. The walls were rattling and there was a lot of lightning and it was scary. I was heading to the basement and I could hear it," she explained.

Crews were on scene cutting branches off multiple fallen trees to try and clear the area.

The National Weather Service will be in Monroe County on Wednesday to determine if the damage was caused by a tornado.
