Cedar Fair faces maximum fine from OSHA for accident at Cedar Point

The U.S. Department of Labor is proposing penalties of $142,270 for one willful and one serious safety violation, the maximum penalties allowed under law.

SANDUSKY, OH (WTOL) - Cedar Fair LP, the company that operates Cedar Point, is facing a big fine after an employee suffered serious injuries at the Sandusky amusement park.

The U.S. Department of Labor is proposing penalties of $142,270 for one willful and one serious safety violation, the maximum penalties allowed under law.

According to the Dept. of Labor, OSHA inspectors found that an injured employee fell through a skylight while removing insulating blankets from a roof while working with two other employees.

The company was also cited for its failure to train employees to recognize fall hazards.

Cedar Fair has 15 days to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA's area director or contest the findings in front of the OSHA review commission.
