LUCAS COUNTY (WTOL) - Lucas County Children Services is asking voters for money in November in hopes to renew Issue 9 for another 10 years.
It's about protecting the kids, especially now with the opioid crisis front and center in the nation.
Toledo's mayor says that despite all the good Children Services does, it still lags behind nationally.
"Ohio ranks 50th in the country in terms of support for children services and if it doubled the amount of money that it gave to children services it would still rank 50th," said Toledo mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.
Children Services says that the cash is needed as child abuse and neglect are on the rise, largely due to the heroin and opiate epidemic.
