Local man heads to N.C., records storm damage for American Red Cross

Mass evacuations continue on the East Coast.

While many are leaving, a local man is heading right into the storm

Steve Mahler departed from Toledo Express Airport on Thursday morning for a two-week deployment to North Carolina.

Mahler is a Disaster Assessment Specialist and is going to record and document the damage the storm leaves behind.

This is his third deployment for the American Red Cross in the past two months.

"You get to meet them one on one in a lot of situations in their very grateful for everything that you do for them. You get a lot of hugs back as well so if you are a hugger it's a good thing to volunteer for," Mahler said.

There is another flight to Charolette today from Toledo Express around 1:30 p.m. today.
