James Marsden is heading to Netflix for a dark comedy series

By Megan Vick,

James Marsden is the next star to give Netflix a shot. The Westworld actor is joining Ed Asner in Liz Feldman's (2 Broke Girls) dark comedy Dead to Me, according to Deadline. They'll star opposite Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate, so this series has our full attention!

The show, which is apparently being dubbed a comedic Big Little Lies (I'd argue Big Little Lies was plenty funny already), has been picked up for a 10-episode first season. It centers on Jen (Applegate), a widow who develops an unexpected friendship with a "free-spirit with a shocking secret" named Judy (Cardellini). Asner plays an elderly man living in the assisted living facility where Applegate's character works, while Marsden will step in as Judy's love interest who is drawn to her free-spirit ways.

But Marsden's casting could potentially create some interesting complications for Westworld Season 3. His character Teddy committed suicide at the end of Season 2, but because of the nature of the show, there was no real reason to assume the actor wouldn't return for the next round of rebellion. Maybe we truly have seen the last of Teddy? Of course, we have to remember that Westworld tends to have an extended pre-production period, so it is possible that Marsden could film Dead to Me in his hiatus.

Dead to Me is also executive-produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
