BGSU and Mercy Health are teaming up to save lives

BOWLING GREEN, OH (WTOL) - Bowling Green State University is answering questions about what will become of its nursing program.

The university and Mercy Health will now run Mercy College of Ohio's medical programs.

"I think with being able to use all of those various health systems we will be able to increase the population of students who are interested in nursing and other field," said Susan Wajert, President of Mercy College.

After BGSU announced the end to their longtime nursing partnership with the University of Toledo, many wondered how the university would grow its program.

BGSU's President Rodney Rogers said that by adding mercy college to BGSU they can become a more competitive nursing program and fill jobs in Northwest Ohio.

"I believe public universities have an obligation to act in the public interest and create public good. That is why the taxpayers help support out public university system" said Rogers.

The change will not impact students right away. School leaders say it will take at least 2 to 3 years to implement.
