Amber Alert cancelled for 9-year-old boy from Columbus

COLUMBUS, OH (WTOL) - A state-wide search for a nine-year-old Columbus boy was cancelled on Sunday.

The boy was found in Byron, Georgia.

The initial alert was issued Friday evening around 9 p.m.

Columbus station WCMH reports that the Amber Alert is for Eli Opembe.

Eli was taken by his non-custodial mother around 6 p.m. last Saturday from a home on the 300 block of Carrington Ridge Drive near Lewis Center.

WCMH reports that Eli is described as a black male standing at 4'10 and weighs 35 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect is 38-year-old Verona Thomas. She is described as a black female standing at 5'10" with brown eyes.

The vehicle involved in the search is a blue 2010 Nissan Altima with CT plate number AB68371 according to WCMH.

Anyone who sees Eli or suspects that they see the vehicle described, is encouraged to call 911 or 1-877-AMBER-OH.
