MONROE COUNTY, MI (WTOL) - One man is in the hospital after he was shot in the abdomen by his girlfriend when he allegedly tried to force his way her home early Sunday morning.
Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of West Elm Avenue after a female caller reported that she shot her boyfriend.
The preliminary investigation found that the 38-year-old male subject arrived at the home after trying to assault the woman earlier in the day.
It is also believed that the man tried to force his way into the home, and in the process assaulted the woman as well as her 17-year-old son.
The woman said that she fired a single gunshot into the man's torso in defense of her son and herself.
The incident is still under investigation.
