SYLVANIA, OH (WTOL) - Orange barrels mean we're going to have better roads in the future, but for those of you tired of having to drive around them, we've got good news.

With school starting back up, many road projects are set to wrap up in order make way for bus routes.

Monroe and Main has been shut down for the last couple of weeks.

School is back in session and the rest of what needs to be done can be completed with the intersection open.

Crews should be completely done there by the end of the month.

"I can't say enough, here Sylvania residents have been tremendous in terms of being patient with us. Obviously, when you close the main intersection of your town, it's very disruptive," said Joseph Shaw, Deputy Service Director of the Department of Public Service for the City of Sylvania.

Off the roadways, the Sylvania River Trail is being extended from Harroun under US 23 to Monroe Street.

It starts in downtown Sylvania and the scenic walkway will provide more options for outdoor travel.

That project is nearly completed as well.

There are also orange barrels to be found on Alexis Road east of Monroe.

"Between Whiteford and Acres they did that piece of the drainage work already, and then they've skipped down to Flanders and are starting over there, and then once they're finished up, they'll resurface everything, but that's tracking more towards a November, early December finish up depending on when asphalt plants will close. But that's an ODOT job," explained Shaw.

Looking forward, Sylvania has also begun prep work for next year's construction season.

The county and city are doing spot curb repair ahead of repaving Holland Sylvania in 2019, which is why, currently, there are barrels and cones leading there from Brint Road.
