Shopping for back to school clothes doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag

One way to save cash without sacrificing style is consignment shopping.

PERRYSBURG, OH (WTOL) - Shopping for back to school clothes can be expensive, especially if you have multiple kids.

It's also tough to find the latest trends while also balancing a budget.

One way to save cash without sacrificing style is consignment shopping.

Secondhand shopping is on the rise, and even fashion editors have admitted they find designer clothes at a steal.

Kathleen Roberts of Clothes Mentor in Perrysburg says she see new clothes coming in daily.

"A lot of times we get in stuff that is new with tags on it and it's just fabulous. You're like, 'oh my gosh I cannot live without this item' and we're putting it out about 70% off," said Roberts.

If you know ahead of time the events your kids will be attending, you could have more luck finding deals. Many items you see are one of a kind and will be gone by the next time you return to the store.

For instance, if your child has a dance, buying the dress for 75% off a few months ahead of time will save you money in the long run.

Many consignment stores are particular with the clothes they sell to ensure they are only gently used.

On the other hand, if you are trying to clean out your own closet, you can sell your clothes to these stores.
