TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Promoting safety in our neighborhoods is important to a lot of people.

'Light the Night' is a way for everyone to contribute to that goal.

The annual event is hosted by the Toledo Neighborhood Block Watch Organization.

With Toledo's ever-present crime rate, the block watch created the event to help citizens fight back against crime in their communities.

"We do it to draw attention to the crime and the blight in the community. And actually, we call it a going-away party for crime and blight," said Florence McLennan, vice chair of the block watch.

The Lucas Metro Housing Authority sponsors the event, which is being held at Vistula Manor.
