Toledo makes push to get more people registered to vote

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Members of Toledo city council are trying to get more people to vote by making it easier for them to register.

Council members said that you can now register to vote at public utility departments.

This means you will be able to go pay your water bill and register to vote or update your voter registration at the same time.

Council members hope that this will help people feel more comfortable interacting with their local government and realize the importance of voting.

The ordinance has bi-partisan support and is receiving high praise from state representatives

"Efforts like this are really important for us to encourage people to check their registration, update it or get registered if they aren't anymore," said Representative Kathleen Clyde, (D) Kent.

Today's announcement comes on the 53rd anniversary of the voting rights act.
