TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Choosing a career path can be difficult especially if you are living with a disability. But the Ability Center and the University of Toledo is helping students find their calling.
The Next Steps Summer Program exposes students to a variety of career paths and schooling options.
Students who participate in the program get the opportunity to stay on the University of Toledo campus for five weeks of their summer.
The students attend classes and work entry level jobs at area companies. They also learn life skills such as how to grocery shop and do laundry.
"It gives me a really good experience of like knowing how a real life workplace would be," said participant Daniel Zugo.
Program directors said it's important to give students exposure to both a college environment and the workforce. They also feel the students add an extra spark to their staff.
Many students find that they love being there too.
"Seeing the people smile once they either walk in or if you help them and they give you a smile, that's the best feeling you can have," said Zugo.
