TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) -

The Toledo Police Department is looking for new officers to join its ranks and on Thursday they brought a new member on board ; TPD's new "police cat."

TPD adopted the cat from the Toledo Area Humane Society after they made a promise on social media that if they reached enough followers, they would adopt a police cat.

But even though he is a part of the crime fighting squad, police say don't  expect him to be out on the streets catching prowlers.

"We will bring him out if there are special events, picnic and parades and things like that plus Danielle has graciously volunteered to bring the cat out to our different district stations to make visits and interact with the police officers," said Police Chief George Kral.

After allowing the public to vote on Twitter, the cat was named Cuffs.

Cuffs is now part of the Special Feline Unit.
