TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) -

A former Lucas County Sheriff's deputy entered a plea of not guilty Thursday morning on one count of rape.

Joseph Gorney had bond set at $100,000 with no 10 percent, and was released on his own recognizance. Judge James Bates also ordered Gorney, 50, to have no contact with the alleged victim.

A trial date of Oct. 16 was set.

According to a police report, the alleged victim was a 38-year-old woman who lived in Gorney's neighborhood.

The incident was said to have occurred on June 2 between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Gorney resigned from the department in June. He served in the sheriff's office for more than two decades.
