TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - It's an exciting time to be a nurse in Toledo. The city was just ranked as one of the best for nurses.

Toledo has just tied  for the third best place in America to be a nurse.

With programs like those at the University of Toledo and a low cost of living, it's not hard to see why.

Online employment site ZipRecruiter tied Toledo with Minneapolis-Saint Paul for third best city in America to be a nurse.

Their data was based on the lower costs of living coupled with good salary as well as greater job opportunities with fewer job seekers.

In Toledo alone, there are over 800 nursing job openings. Openings students would be happy to fill.

"That definitely makes me feel excited, especially since Toledo has such a great nursing program and nursing school, to know that there's going to be jobs opened up for us staying right where we went to school will be great," said Rachel Tracy, junior nursing student.

But it's not just Toledo that needs to fill nursing jobs.

Nationwide, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a need for 1.1 million new nurses as 500,000 are expected to retire by 2022.

Nursing Dean Linda Lewandowski thinks one of nursing's big appeals lies in its versatility.

"Nursing is a very flexible area. It can really meet the needs of people with very different ideas of what they'd like to do," Lewandowski said.
