The Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirms search and rescue efforts continued on Sunday for the 13-year-old boy who went missing in Lake Erie at 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

Family members say the missing teen is Shaud Howell, however police have yet to confirm his identity.

Howell was swimming near Edgewater Park when he went beneath the waves and did not come back up, according to police.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Cleveland Metroparks RangersCleveland Police and Cleveland Fire mobilized the search on Friday night using helicopters, boats and light trucks to try and find the boy.

The search and rescue mission resumed Saturday morning after the water was too rough to continue the search throughout the entire night, Cleveland Fire says.

Cleveland Metroparks Rangers, Cleveland Fire, Coast Guard, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and Southwest Emergency Response Team were conducting the operations on Saturday morning with divers, helicopters, and sonar technology.

According to Cleveland Metroparks, Edgewater Beach and the surrounding swim area have been thoroughly searched, leading teams to switch their efforts to shore and boat based soar searches.

The Edgewater Beach swim area is open for public use, Cleveland Metroparks confirms.

Lifeguards are on duty everyday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. beginning the first Saturday in June through the second Sunday in August, then on weekends only through Labor Day.

Cleveland Metroparks says the Edgewater Beach House and the Taste on the Lake event remain unaffected.
