FINDLAY, OH (WTOL) - The next big phase of construction on I-75 in Findlay has begun, which means some major closures for drivers to begin dealing with.
Earlier this week, ODOT shifted southbound I-75 traffic further onto the shoulder through Findlay. .That's because next week, crews will begin their final phase of construction on the outside lanes of northbound I-75.
While that work begins, ODOT will be completely re-engineering the on off ramps of northbound I-75 at the 224 exit.
Starting Monday, the ramps will be completely shut down, the on ramp for 30 days, and the off ramp for 60.
Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik says the city has been in constant contact with ODOT throughout this entire construction process, and already has plans in place for emergency vehicles so response times aren't effected.
Mihalik said the trouble of closing a major interchange is a needed problem to see improvements to the local infrastructure.
"It'll be a headache, there's no doubt about it. It's going to have an impact on people's commutes, coming in and going out of the city. But ultimately it's a short term pain for a long term improvement. And we're looking forward to it all being completed," said Mihalik
