An Akron man is accused of a robbing a woman at knifepoint in front of her kids.

The Akron Police Department said around 2 p.m. on Thursday a woman had her purse stolen while she was getting into her car at a store on the 700 block of South Main Street.

Investigators said the woman told officers she was putting her two children in the backseat of her car when the suspects approached her.

Authorities said the woman told police the suspect said "give me your purse and you won't get hurt."

The suspect held a knife in his hand and grabbed her purse that was around her shoulder, according to police.

Police said the suspect cut the strap and left with her purse.

Investigators said the victim screamed and the security guard came out to assist the woman.

Authorities said the guard ran after the suspect and was able to to apprehend him.

Keith Watkins,53, Akron, was charged with aggravated robbery.

The woman suffered a minor puncture wound to her arm during the robbery, she was treated and released on scene by first responders.

Police said the woman's purse was given back to her.
