Loaded pistol found in restroom at UTMC's Dowling Hall

Campus police found a small black pistol, described as a Taurus 740 Smith & Wesson 40-caliber pistol, on top of the toilet paper dispenser in a stall. The officer ejected the magazine from the pistol, removed the single round from the chamber and rendered the weapon safe.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - A loaded gun was found in a men's restroom at UTMC's Dowling Hall building, according to a University of Toledo Police report.

The owner of the weapon is not known at this time, but a records check revealed the gun was not stolen.

According to the report, an officer was dispatched on Friday to the men's restroom on the first floor of Dowling Hall on a report of found property. A woman who works at the orthopedic clinic said she saw a man looking confused after he exited the restroom and she asked if she could be of any help. He stated he saw a gun sitting in a stall of the restroom, and didn't know who to contact about it. She contacted campus security, who then contacted campus police.

Campus police found a small black pistol, described as a Taurus 740 Smith & Wesson 40-caliber pistol, on top of the toilet paper dispenser in a stall. The officer ejected the magazine from the pistol, removed the single round from the chamber and rendered the weapon safe.

Dispatch completed a records check and determined the weapon was not stolen. The owner of the weapon was unknown at the time of the report. The report states that in addition to the weapon and magazine, a black nylon holster and seven rounds of ammunition were recovered and checked into evidence.
