BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A puppy reportedly thrown down a set of stairs and beaten with a flashlight has found a new home.

The dog, now named Layla, was recently adopted and has a new fur sibling named Jaxx.

Rescuers with Joseph's Legacy recently took in the months-old lab mix after they believe the dog's owner, a 19-year-old man, got angry when she peed in his room. They believe he abused the pup after the incident.

Rescuers said Monroe Family Pet Hospital veterinarians performed surgery on the pup because she has several broken bones.

"She is the happiest, bravest and sweetest puppy you'll ever meet," said Layla's new owner, Ashley.

Layla, formerly named Valhalla, may never have a normal gait again as a result of the abuse, but seems to be enjoying her new family.
