SOLITUDE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities have contained a diesel spill in a southwestern Indiana creek and will try to recover the fuel. On-scene coordinator Kevin Turner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said he believes about 42,000 gallons of fuel spilled into Big Creek in Posey County before the leak from a Marathon Petroleum Corp. pipeline was detected Tuesday evening. The Indianapolis Star reports Marathon workers deployed two booms that contained the spill.

CINCINNATI (AP) - The standoff over Cincinnati's embattled city manager is continuing. With one council member absent Wednesday, Mayor John Cranley removed a proposed buyout proposal for Harry Black from the agenda for now. Cranley asked Black to resign nearly two weeks ago. Black balked.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A registered sex offender convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing an Ohio State University student has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Jurors found him guilty last week in the death of 21-year-old Reagan Tokes. He could have received the death penalty, but jurors recommended life without parole. He had apologized and asked for mercy. His lawyers argued his traumatic childhood shaped his actions.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio school board member is resigning after authorities in Michigan filed charges accusing of him sexual misconduct with a former student decades ago. Washington Local Schools board member Patrick Hickey says the allegations aren't true, but he stepped down Tuesday. A 2016 police report says a woman told investigators she had sex with Hickey when she was 14 and he was a teacher in Addison, Michigan. Authorities say she didn't want to pursue charges at the time, but she has changed her mind.
