AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 4-year-old girl sitting in a car with young siblings and her grandmother in northeastern Ohio has been arrested. Akron police say 31-year-old Darnell Bitting was arrested around 4 p.m. Saturday in Akron. Police say the girl was shot by a man who stepped outside of a home with a rifle and fired one shot Friday night after her mother tried to retrieve belongings at the residence.

CINCINNATI (AP) - A judge's custody ruling opens up the possibility that a transgender Ohio teen can receive hormone therapy despite his parents' opposition. A judge in Cincinnati granted custody of the teen to his grandparents Friday and said they have the right to determine what care he pursues through a hospital's transgender program after he's evaluated. The teen's parents deny he's transgender and sought Christian-based therapy for him.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state Department of Health says nearly 11,000 people in Ohio have been hospitalized for influenza this flu season. Ohio health department records show Cuyahoga County, which includes Cleveland, has had nearly double the number of flu hospitalizations thru Feb. 10 as Franklin County, Ohio's most populous county that includes Columbus. WJW-TV has reported the Cuyahoga County Health Department says there have been 30 flu-related deaths in the county this season.

CINCINNATI (AP) - A county health department in southwest Ohio says children, staff members and others will be tested for tuberculosis because of concerns that a former day care center worker may have exposed them to the infectious bacterial disease. WCPO-TV reports Hamilton County Health Department spokesman Mike Samet said Friday there are concerns that 41 children, seven day care workers and four other people could have been exposed to tuberculosis through interactions with the former employee.
