WASHINGTON (AP) - President Donald Trump is directing the Commerce Department to begin an investigation into whether tariffs are needed on the import of automobiles into the United States. The White House says Trump has asked Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to consider whether imports of cars and trucks and automotive parts threaten U.S. national security. The president says in a statement that "core industries such as automobiles and automotive parts are critical to our strength as a Nation."

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A meeting where applicants seeking to operate Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries were supposed to learn whether they've received licenses has been postponed. The Ohio Board of Pharmacy said it canceled Wednesday's special meeting two days after it was announced because information gathering was incomplete. A spokesman says the board is awaiting background check information and to verify that proposed locations are at least 500 feet from schools and churches.

ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say an Ohio man who fatally shot another hunter and then failed to report the man's death has been indicted on involuntary manslaughter and other charges. The Ashtabula County Prosecutor's Office in northeast Ohio says 40-year-old Darrell Shepard was illegally hunting on the first day of the deer gun season last November when he shot and killed Randy Gozzard, who was hunting nearby.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A Republican lawmaker vying to be Ohio's next speaker is accusing his chief rival of underhanded dealing and says he is not under investigation by the FBI. House Finance Chairman Ryan Smith, of Gallia (GAL'-yuh) County, angrily called out state Rep. Larry Householder, a fellow Republican and former speaker, and his allies for using tactics "from bullying to threats to downright extortion" that are stalling the speaker vote. Householder called the allegations "unequivocally false."
