Operation Respect collecting faded and worn American flags

Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and area Andersons Stores are mobilizing for the 15th annual “Operation Respect" - the region’s largest flag collection and retirement effort.

(WTOL) - Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and area Andersons Stores are mobilizing for the 15th annual "Operation Respect" - the region's largest
flag collection and retirement effort.
 
Operation Respect has properly disposed of more than 43,000 flags since its inception in 2001.

This is a free public service provided for the community by The Andersons, Buckeye CableSystem and supporting organizations.
 
Faded, torn or otherwise unserviceable American flags will be accepted Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Flags may also be d ropped off on Sunday Nov. 8 between 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Toledo area Andersons stores are located at: Talmadge and Monroe Street, Illinois Avenue in Maumee, and at 7638 West Sylvania Ave. in Sylvania.
 
Flags of other nations, official flags for any of the 50 States, US Territories or the military services will also be accepted. Flags for sports or other team flags are not appropriate for this event.
 
Soldiers of the Ohio Military Reserve, U.S. Navy Sea Cadets - Commodore Perry Division, University of Toledo ROTC cadets and area Boy Scouts are supporting the Operation Respect collection stations.

The flags will be respectfully disposed of in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code Saturday, Dec. 6.
