Northwest Ohio native Emily Nelson joined the WTOL 11 news team in September 2015 as an anchor and investigative reporter. You can see Emily anchoring weekends on CBS at 6pm and 11pm and catch her investigative reports throughout our weekly WTOL 11 newscasts. Emily has reported and anchored at news outlets in Michigan including WNEM TV-5 and WDIV Local 4. She has covered a variety of topics from human trafficking to political scandals. She started her career reporting at WFTX Fox 4 in Fort Myers, Florida. She holds a Master in Journalism degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she completed a political reporting concentration in Washington D.C.
Prior to pursuing her passion for journalism, Emily worked at GE Capital in Chicago where she also completed her Master in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. A true buckeye, she holds an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University where she majored in Marketing and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Outside of work Emily loves to travel (she’s been to five continents and counting!), enjoys whipping up culinary delights, is an avid runner and yogi and likes volunteering with charities including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Children’s Hospital.
Emily hails from the Findlay area and is beyond excited to be back in Northwest Ohio where most of her family still lives. Family is important to Emily – she loves spending time with her husband Christopher and their dog Baxter.
