Toledo shoppers load up on water despite low level warning

Even though the City of Toledo Water Quality Dashboard is just at a watch, local shoppers said they aren't taking any chances.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Even though the City of Toledo Water Quality Dashboard is just at a watch, local shoppers said they aren't taking any chances.

Many people were stocking up on bottled water Tuesday.

"Well, we knew there was going to be a problem with the water. We saw the warning last night and just kind of wanted to stay stocked up. We already had some at home but wanted to cook with some more," said Tasha Lothery.

Lothery loaded up on four cases of water. She said she's been using bottled water since last year's water crisis.

"I'm sure it's good for certain things…but is it good for you to drink? No," she said.

Another resident, Rocky Cutlip said his family doesn't drink the water either.

"My wife has stage four cancer and going through chemo. So, her immune system is really down, and she can't drink any impure water," he said.

Many stores across the area had to reload on water. Kroger employees at the Miracle Mile store said they ran out of Tuesday's stock of water, and are now using what would normally be Wednesday's supply.

The Costco on Central Avenue put a limit of six cases per customer.

Meijer has also seen an increase in sales. The stores will receive an extra truck load of water, but they don't foresee any issues.

Although many residents are worried about the water, others are not. Most people just hope there's a warning if it gets bad.

"If there is going to be a problem again this year I really hope the city does a better job of alerting people, rather than just putting something on Facebook," said Laura Drahein.

City officials said they will be working with local stores to make sure there is an ample supply of bottled water.
