(Toledo News Now) - By Gary Brehm, Sandland Farms
Last Saturday, many of you took the opportunity to attend the Fulton County Breakfast on the Farm event at our family farm in Swanton.
To those who haven't ever been on a working farm, thanks for attending to see first-hand how farmers in northwest Ohio are providing quality care for our animals, conserving our environment and producing safe, wholesome food for consumers. We hope you acquired a new and transparent perspective on the agriculture industry.
Thank you to the Ohio State University Extension, the Fulton County Soil & Water Conservation District, the Fulton County Farm Bureau, the many committee members and the 400-plus who volunteered to make the event successful. Without your efforts and enthusiasm, Breakfast on the Farm would not have been possible. And a special thank you to the sponsors who made this a free event.
To my fellow farmers and AG agencies in northwest Ohio, I hope this encourages you to host “farm to fork” events in the future. We need to continue the conversation with consumers on how farmers are striving to provide quality food in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.
To our friends at WTOL, thank you for your willingness to partner with us. With your positive media efforts, we were able to host over 3,000 consumers at Sandland Farms last Saturday.
