Ohio's Future Energy Tour stops in Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Ohio's Future Energy Tour made a stop in Toledo on Monday.
The free tour gives businesses, other organizations, and the public a chance to talk about the positive impacts of clean energy in a panel setting.
One of those businesses is Iberdrola Renewables. They're the business behind Blue Creek Wind Farms in Van Wert and Paulding counties. Senior Business Developer Dan Litchfield spoke during the first panel.
"Not many people seem to understand the benefits of renewable energy to Ohio. So ours is the biggest project and hopefully among the biggest benefits, and we just wanted more people to hear about that," said Dan Litchfield.
Litchfield calls the project a good environmental and economic story, which was a theme throughout the forum.
"It's 152 wind turbines, so big project, and it is a great fit with that area. It's very agricultural, so it's a new crop that the farmers can harvest," said Litchfield.
Kevin Moyer, Executive Director of energy programs at the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority, says meetings like this help the public learn how implementing renewable energy works and that it's a real option.
"I think the takeaway is that these energy savings that businesses can achieve are real. It's also a real fact that alternative energy, for example, is big business for Ohio and for Toledo," said Moyer.
Moyer says the Toledo area is off to a good start when it comes to renewable energy, but the hope is to get more projects off the ground.
