TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Heroin is a major problem throughout Lucas County. Tuesday those living in the 43612 zip code area came together to discuss how the problem is impacting their neighborhood.
The zip code includes both parts of north and west Toledo, and has the highest number of opiate deaths in the area.
Tuesday members of the Asbury Park block watch group met to talk about the links between drug use and crime in their neighborhood. Many of them saying they believe the heroin epidemic is a big part of the recent increase in crime and break-ins.
“They're doing anything they can to get it. We've had 13 occupied break-ins in the last 30 days and we think the heroin has a lot to do with that,” said 43612 resident Frank Hebert.
A speaker from a drug outreach program was also at the meeting. They said one of the biggest things you can do at home is talk to your kids, friends, and family members about the problem.
