About Mercy: Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Mercy Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized medical care for premature babies and sick newborns.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Mercy Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized medical care for premature babies and sick newborns who may require a short period of observation and stabilization or long term because of extreme prematurity or complicated illness. Our NICU has long held a Level III designation, the highest awarded by the Ohio Department of Health for the care of critically ill newborns.

The 30- bed unit combines state-of-the-art technology in a family-centered environment, enabling us to help our tiny patients to have a better chance of reaching their full developmental potential in the future. In addition to holding a Level III designation, our NICU is now the most advanced unit of its kind in our region.
